Proteins are always covered in an undergraduate biochemistry or molecular biology syllabus, often several times throughout a standard three year course. Although many of the major biochemistry textbooks introduce the subject of proteins very well they are quite dated in their approach and do not cover the importance of proteins to modern biochemistry. Other books covering proteins are often too advanced for second and third year undergraduates. There is currently no good introductory text on proteins specifically aimed at undergraduates. This title bridges the gap between the conventional textbooks such as Stryer and Voet & Voet and the more advanced texts such as Creighton. It provides an introduction to the study of proteins, focusing on their structure and function. By introducing the concepts connected with protein folding in a user-friendly manner, it will provide students with the foundation they need in order to be able to undertake more advanced study and analysis of proteins. A key component will be the web based resource which will accompany the book. It will include animated protein structures, problems and answers, and links to protein databases and other sites of interest.
