In construction, the quantity surveyor (QS) is a construction professional concerned with building costs. Historically the QS was employed to estimate and measure the likely material requirements for any building project, but the role is much broader and more diverse, with a range of employers and geographical locations to match. The core skills required by a quantity surveyor are similarly broad, from measurement and costing to the management of the procurement process, cost and value management, contract management and project management.
