Structure and Function in Cell Signalling is a concise and accessible introduction to the dynamic field of signal transduction, incorporating the latest developments. The book demystifies cell signalling through a nuts and bolts approach; moving away from simply cataloguing signalling molecules, and delineating every known pathway to illustrating the way signalling pathways are made up from common components instead. This active learning approach help the readers to understand and apply their knowledge.     Starting from a familiarity with glycolysis and the basic protein structural elements the text liken protein kinases to adenylate kinase, G-Proteins to poor GTPase enzyme and utilises a simplified treatment of receptor affinity and enzyme kinetics to create a quantitative appreciation of the subject. Cell signalling as a subject can appear more confusing than necessary to the student, because of variation in the numbering of key amino acids. Proteins can also be numbered with or without the terminal Met, plus or minus signal sequences or with numbering that is conflicting due to different splice variants. These issues are addressed  in this book in a way to make them as clear as possible to the reader. To further aid student understanding the book addresses the issue of variation in the numbering of key amino acids as well as featuring an accompanying website, interaction with RasMol (molecular rendering software) and exercises to aid understanding. A glossary not only includes the multiple names for gene products that students often find so confusing in other texts, but also lists derivation of the acronyms.
