By the end of the last century, it was known from microscopical studies that most cells contained small elongated bodies, now known as mitochondria. Although there were indications that these organelles could play a role in cellular ovulation, it was not until recently that their true function began to be revealed as complex organelles possessing inner and outer membranes and even their own DNA began to be revealed. This book will tackle the biochemistry, genetics, and pathology of mitochondria in different organisms. Mitochondria will represent the first modern, truly comprehensive authored book in the field.
