Merrill has developed an e3 Course Critique Checklist that enables users to evaluate existing instruction to determine the extent to which this material implements First Principles of Instruction.?The e3 Course Critique Checklist also enables the evaluator to prescribe modifications in existing instruction that will increase its e3 level.? ? The Author has also developed a Pebble-in-the-Pond instructional design model with an accompanying e3 ID Checklist.?This checklist enables instructional designers to design and develop instructional products that more adequately implement First Principles of Instruction. ? In Volume 1, the author: (1) describes and illustrates the concepts underlying First Principles of Instruction; (2) describes and illustrates First Principles and their application in a wide variety of instructional products; (3) Introduces the e3 Course Critique Checklist that can be used to evaluate existing instructional products; and (4) provides directions for applying this checklist and illustrates its use for a variety of different kinds of courses.
